Tom Elder

Tom Elder, age 81, passed away May 5, 2012 in Bellingham. He was born April 8, 1931 in  Lynden to Walter and Gertrude Elder.  Tom graduated from Nooksack High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In earlier years he enjoyed RVing, dancing, bowling, golfing and attending social events at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club. Tom was a long time member of the Masonic Lodge, the Nile Shriners and the American Legion.  He worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at Mobil Oil Refinery in Ferndale for 33 years before retiring.  Tom was well-liked by his neighbors and made friends easily.  Tom is survived by his daughter Carrie (husband Matt) Bennett and son Kent Elder, step-daughter Lynn (husband Ted) Klainer, granddaughter Vanessa Herre, brother Bob (wife Carol) Elder, sisters Donna (husband Duane) Johnson, Shirley (husband Bob) Rapoza and Sandra (Bob) Knudsen, and numerous friends and relatives.  Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice or the Paralyzed Veterans of America.  Graveside services with military honors will be held at Bayview City Cemetery on Friday, May 11th at 2 PM.
