Wendell I Gardner passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 with his wife and family at his side. He is survived by his wife Lorraine of 33 years, sons William Gardner, Robert Gardner, daughter Wendy Ulmer and their spouses, his step children Lavonne Whitfield, Richard Whitfield, Michael Whitfield, Nancy Raymond, Lisa Haak and spouses, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wendell came from a large family of seven children whom all preceded him in death. His son Rick Gardner also preceded him in death.
Wendell served in the United States Army. He spent time in Austria as a military policeman and received an honorable discharge after serving in WWll. Wendell was member of Veteran of Foreign Wars, the International Order of Foresters and the American Legion. He was a dedicated father and spouse. After his first wife Charlotte passed away with him at her side in 1982, Wendell married Lorraine Whitfield on April 23, 1990.
He had a full life. Wendell enjoyed golf, horseshoes, cards, traveling, and camping. He spent as much time as possible outdoors. Wendell worked in the woods as a logger, and as maintenance at the Whatcom County Hospital. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. There were many nights Wendell spent quietly on the couch with his cat on his lap watching the squirrels and birds. There was not a meal served that did not include PEANUT BUTTER (even on his hot dogs, and hamburgers).
Wendell will be missed but his memory and love will remain in our hearts.
