Wilbur “Bill” Hammer went home to be with His Savior on Saturday, September 27, 2014, with family by his side. He leaves his surviving children; Linda and husband Ray Reamer, Diane Moore and special friend Bill Brickey, son Greg and wife Kay Hammer, 8 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren. His absence leaves an empty place in our hearts. Bill was born to Raymond Stuart and Orma “Blanche” Adams Hammer on November 13, 1918 in Odell, OR. He was pre-deceased by his parents as well as his wife of 71 years, Evelyn Lindquist Hammer and son-in-law Ron Moore. Bill is the third of 13 children and was pre-deceased by five brothers and sisters. Bill lived in Washington State most of his life, working as a trucker in the logging industry, mainly in Whatcom and Snohomish Counties. Because of his love of Central Oregon, Bill’s CB radio handle was Tumbleweed. He “broke in” (trained) son Greg and sons-in-law Ray and Ron in the art of truck driving and they never regretted that opportunity. That legacy now extends to the next generation as well. He loved what he did. Bill’s eternal love was the Lord Jesus Christ. He was saved on December 19, 1951 and his life was changed forever. He had a call, a burning desire to share the Gospel with anyone that would listen. It was the passion and purpose of his life. His greatest desire was that everyone know, love and serve Jesus. He now is in the very presence of his Savior. A visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 9th from 4-7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 10th from 1-3 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10th at Greenacres Memorial Park with a Celebration of Bill’s life to follow at 5 p.m., at Spring Creek Bible Church, 567 E. Kellogg Rd., Bellingham, followed immediately by fellowship and food. The family wishes to extend heart-felt thanks to Dr. James Hopper and Dr. Andrew Coletti without whom we would not have had so many sweet years with our beloved Father. Because of their compassion, respect and expertise we enjoyed this relationship until nearly his 96th birthday. We also wish to thank the staff of Orchard Park Assisted Living and Alabama Hill Adult Family Home for the loving care provided him while residing there. You have our gratitude. Memorials in Bill’s name may be made to The Lighthouse Mission, 910 Holly Street, 98225, the Whatcom County Pregnancy Clinic, 1310 N. State Street, 98225 or Gideons International, Bellingham Camp, BOX 30093, 98228.
