Yvonne Sheline, age 92, passed away peacefully August 21, 2010 into the arms of our loving Heavenly Father at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. She died from natural causes.
Yvonne was born to Clem Earl Ford and Garnet Freese Ford on December 22, 1917, in Axtel, Kansas. She and her family moved to Everett and made their home in Bellingham. She attended Assumption Catholic School for a number of years and graduated from Whatcom High School.
Yvonne loved to play her mother’s violin and continued to enjoy violin music to this day.
Yvonne met her husband to be, Howard, on a blind date on a moonlight cruise through the San Juan Islands. They both immediately fell in love, a love they shared for 65 years. Yvonne was a faithful and dedicated wife and mother. Her first priority was her three children, to whom she taught strong values and Christ’s Gospel.
Some of Yvonne’s favorite activities were walking, dancing, sketching, painting landscapes, and decorating the many homes she and her husband built throughout the years. Yvonne was a charter member of the Whatcom Art Guild. She loved to volunteer her time to the many social and charity fundraisers at St. Joseph Hospital and Assumption Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister to St. Joseph’s.
Early in her marriage, Yvonne worked during WWII for the U.S. Air Force in the Motor Pool. Later, Yvonne and Howard owned and operated Howard’s Char Broiler Restaurant in downtown Bellingham. She also worked at the Bon Marche where she enjoyed helping customers find their most flattering styles and colors in clothing.
Yvonne was an intelligent, compassionate, and affectionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, in 2009. She is survived by her loving children Greg and Gail Sheline of Las Vegas, NV, and Brian and his wife Dixie Sheline of Bellingham and their children Lauren and Daniel, and siblings Patricia Mills, Clem and his wife Betty Ford, and Stanley and his wife Sylvia Ford.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nursing staff at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center who provided for her care during her last days. A Graveside Service will be held at Bayview City Cemetery on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Hope House, 2116 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham, WA, 98225 c/o Assumption Church.
